Alamo Square

  • In 1856 Mayor James Van Ness declared Alamo Square.
  • Famous for the Painted Ladies which are a shining example of Victorian Italianate architecture.
  • “Postcard Row” is the nickname for the iconic photo that features the instantly reconizable "painted ladies".
When to Go

Alamo Square has a fantastic park thats great to hang out at for an hour or more throughout most of the year.

Where to Park

Parking is available around the park and on neightboring streets. You shouldn't have to drive very far.

Muni Public Transportation

Alamo Square is easily accessible by San Francisco Muni buses from Church Street at Market, take the #22 Fillmore bus to Hayes Street. Alamo Square Park is one block over to the west, at Steiner Street. Or from Hayes Valley, go west on Hayes Street about three blocks past the commercial sector. What to bring and what to wear

A walk with your dog can be a nice addition to this senic view. Pack up some food and drink and enjoy a day in the park with the kids. Because you’ll be going out, you’ll want to bring layers to be prepared for all weather conditions. Snacks and a camera are also recommended.
